Moonshot AI in the enterprise
As of November 5, 2026. Every figure links to its source; company-reported numbers are labeled as such.
Moonshot AI is the Beijing start-up behind the Kimi family of AI models. Most of its money comes from businesses and developers that pay to use Kimi through its paid online service (an API, which lets other software call the model), not from consumer subscriptions. Its July 2026 Kimi K3 model has open weights, so anyone can download and run it, but companies that resell it as a service with more than $20 million in revenue over 12 months need a separate commercial deal. Moonshot is now adding direct enterprise sales. In September 2026 it launched a Kimi Enterprise Partner Program with five Chinese IT services firms, including AsiaInfo and Kingsoft Cloud, which pair with Moonshot engineers to install Kimi inside client companies. Abroad, Kimi K3 is sold through Amazon Bedrock and through Fireworks AI on Microsoft Foundry, where cloud customers can buy access without running the model themselves.
Growth has been very fast, but the figures come from press reports citing people familiar with the company; Moonshot has not published audited numbers. Annualized revenue reportedly rose from $300 million in June 2026 to more than $1 billion in August, after the K3 launch. The company is reportedly aiming for $2 billion by the end of 2026, and API sales account for more than 70% of revenue. That puts it ahead of rival MiniMax ($800 million) but behind Zhipu's Z.ai ($1.6 billion) as of August. It remains far smaller than US leaders Anthropic and OpenAI. In September 2026 Moonshot reportedly filed confidentially for a Hong Kong IPO aimed at raising about $3 billion. It is also raising private money at a $50 billion valuation.
The main risks are political and legal. In August 2026 the White House accused Moonshot of training K3 on restricted Nvidia chips and of copying capabilities from Anthropic's models, a practice known as distillation. The US Treasury Secretary said Moonshot could be added to a US trade blacklist, which would cut it off from US chip suppliers and cloud partners. Anthropic separately alleged that Kimi requests were secretly routed to its Claude models. Moonshot disputes the distillation claim. What to watch: the timing of the IPO, whether the US blacklisting goes ahead, whether the cloud resale deals with Microsoft and Google close, and whether revenue really reaches $2 billion by year-end.
