Amazon in the enterprise

As of November 5, 2026. Every figure links to its source; company-reported numbers are labeled as such.

Amazon sells AI to businesses through Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud business it pioneered. AWS rents out computing power, including Amazon's own Trainium AI chips. Through Amazon Bedrock it sells access to AI models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Amazon and others. It also offers ready-made AI tools such as Amazon Quick for office work, Kiro for software development and Amazon Connect for call centers. In Q3 2026 AWS revenue grew 39.3% to $46.0 billion, its fastest growth in nearly five years. That puts AWS on a $184 billion annual pace, and operating income reached $17.8 billion. Amazon says its backlog of signed contracts reached $578 billion and that AI revenue is growing at triple-digit rates. These are company-reported figures.

AWS's strengths are scale and model choice. Amazon says Fortune 500 spending on Bedrock is up nearly 7x year over year and calls it the fastest-growing multi-billion-dollar service in AWS history. It added OpenAI's models in April 2026 after Microsoft's exclusive cloud rights to them ended. Two very large AI-lab contracts anchor demand. Anthropic has committed more than $100 billion to AWS over ten years for up to 5 gigawatts of capacity. OpenAI's original $38 billion AWS deal has been expanded by a reported $100 billion. Named business users include Itaú Unibanco, U.S. Bank, S&P Global and WEX in financial services, and Amazon cites Mondelēz, 3M and Southwest Airlines as Amazon Quick customers.

What to watch: cost and concentration. Amazon expects about $220 billion of capital spending in 2026, mostly for AWS. Much of the backlog is tied to a few AI labs that Amazon also invests in (up to $33 billion in Anthropic and up to $50 billion in OpenAI). AWS's percentage growth still trails Azure's and Google Cloud's, though from a larger base. Management is guiding to growth "north of 40%" in both 2027 and 2028, and plans to sell Trainium chips outside AWS from late 2027.
