Moonshot AI Lines Up Hong Kong IPO for Early 2027 After Valuation Nears $50 Billion

Moonshot AI, the Beijing-based developer behind the Kimi family of large language models, is pressing ahead with a Hong Kong initial public offering, according to a Bloomberg report published October 5. The company has moved into the pre-IPO financing phase at a valuation of roughly $50 billion and could begin preliminary meetings with prospective investors as soon as this month, with a listing targeted for the first quarter of 2027.

The report describes the Hong Kong plans as still contingent on regulatory approval and market conditions, with details that could change before a formal filing is finalized. Moonshot has not commented publicly on the specifics, with the company previously telling reporters covering earlier stages of the process that it "doesn't comment on market rumours or speculation."

A valuation climb from $4 billion to $50 billion in a year

The scale of the jump is notable. Moonshot's Series C round valued the company at roughly $4.3 billion in 2025. By July 2026 it had closed a $3.5 billion round at a $35 billion valuation, and reporting since August has tracked a follow-on pre-IPO round aimed at pushing that figure to around $50 billion — more than a tenfold increase in roughly a year. Investors reported across the funding rounds include Tencent, Alibaba, Meituan, HSG, IDG Capital, Capital Today, China Mobile, and China's National AI Industry Investment Fund. Moonshot has reportedly engaged Goldman Sachs, CICC, and Deutsche Bank on IPO preparation and has unwound its offshore corporate structure to clear the way for a Hong Kong listing.

The surge has tracked closely with the July release of Kimi K3, a 2.8-trillion-parameter open-weight model that Moonshot and outside benchmarks described as competitive with — and in some tests ahead of — frontier systems from Anthropic and OpenAI. Bloomberg reported that Moonshot told investors its annualized recurring revenue jumped from roughly $300 million in June to more than $1 billion in August, and that the company is targeting $2 billion in ARR by the end of 2026.

Moonshot said it doesn't comment on market rumours or speculation.

Part of a broader wave of Chinese AI listings

Moonshot's push toward Hong Kong is unfolding alongside a broader queue of Chinese AI firms eyeing public markets. Rivals Z.ai and MiniMax are separately pursuing listings on Shanghai's STAR Market, and some reporting has indicated Moonshot itself is weighing a dual-track listing spanning both Hong Kong and Shanghai to diversify its access to capital amid uneven performance among AI-linked stocks in Hong Kong.

The financing also lands inside a wider story machine.net has tracked on its AI Capital Flow dashboard: a growing share of global AI investment moving through Chinese developers racing to convert fast model progress and revenue growth into public-market valuations before competitors crowd the same listing windows. For investors, the open question is whether a roughly 50-times revenue multiple — implied by a $50 billion valuation against reported $1 billion ARR — can hold once Moonshot's books face the scrutiny of a public offering.
